Most enterprise AI agents never reach the organization-wide level of adoption, according to a Deloitte survey. The report found that 89% of AI agent pilots fail in deployment, while only 14% have been scaled to widespread use.
This trend is also reflected in a separate survey by Teradata. The company's data suggests that nearly all enterprises are currently using at least one AI agent pilot, but fewer than half have successfully deployed them to their organization-wide use. In contrast, adoption is universal among AI applications, with over 99% of companies using some form of machine learning or artificial intelligence.
The difference between the deployment rates for agents and other technologies like software as a service (SaaS) products is significant. This suggests that while many enterprise IT projects fail to deliver tangible results due to implementation and integration challenges, AI agent pilots face unique hurdles when it comes to reaching widespread adoption.
