Just over half of American adults claim that a partner's romantic or sexual relationship with an artificial intelligence can be considered cheating. According to a survey conducted by the AI romance platform AI Girlfriend Coach, which was run by SurveyMonkey Audience and analyzed on 1,709 responses from U.S. adults who took part in the survey, 50.5% of respondents said this type of infidelity would count as an affair.
The survey found that these individuals were likely tech-lovers who are familiar with AI technology. Many of those surveyed had reported using virtual assistants or have experience with artificial intelligence products. The fact that a significant number of Americans are comfortable discussing the idea of AI romance in a more casual, low-stakes setting suggests that this issue may be more nuanced than traditional notions of infidelity.
The high percentage of respondents who claimed that an AI partner's relationship can count as cheating is likely due to a desire to explore new forms of intimacy and relationships. With the rise of virtual dating apps and online platforms, it's not uncommon for people to consider exploring unconventional relationships with artificial entities. The survey results suggest that there may be more Americans than we initially thought who are open to the idea of AI romance as an alternative or complement to traditional relationships.
