According to a report by the US Department of Homeland Security's Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA), hackers are targeting Siemens' smart grid systems, which are used to control and manage various aspects of water infrastructure. The attack has been linked to several incidents in recent years, including one in 2020 that compromised over 1 million utility customers.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued a warning about the rising threat posed by these hackers, citing the potential for "catastrophic" consequences if left unchecked.
