The European Union has published a crucial transparency playbook for AI development and deployment, aimed at helping companies meet the requirements set by law as it takes effect in just over two weeks' time. The EU Content Labelling Playbook is a voluntary Code of Practice that outlines practical steps for businesses to label their AI-generated content in accordance with EU regulations.
The publication comes ahead of the implementation deadline of the AI Act on August 2, which requires all new and existing AI systems built in the EU to be labeled with clear information about how they work. The European Commission has released the final version of the Code after several rounds of public consultation and feedback from industry stakeholders.
By publishing this transparency playbook, the EU aims to ensure that companies operating in its territory are able to provide transparent and explainable AI systems, which will be essential for building trust with citizens and regulators alike. The code provides a framework for labeling AI-generated content, including text, images, and videos, as well as guidance on how to interpret and disclose any associated data or context.
