The European Union has unveiled a secret labeling framework designed to regulate artificial intelligence systems. The EU Content Labeling Regulation, set to come into force on August 2, requires companies that develop and use generative AI to label their products with clear information about the technology used.
Under this new policy, companies will be required to provide detailed labels for their AI-generated content, including descriptions of how it works and what data is being used. The labeling system aims to help consumers make informed decisions about the technologies they are using, particularly those that involve sensitive or personal data.
The European Commission has released the final version of its Code of Practice on AI Content Labeling, which sets out practical steps for businesses that build and use generative AI. Companies will need to implement these labeling requirements by August 2, in line with a deadline set earlier this month.
