Facebook's long-awaited AI 'reveal' tool has been deleted overnight under pressure from users and critics who felt it allowed for the posting of hateful content without adequate moderation.
The technology, which aimed to give users more control over how their public content is referenced online, was intended as a useful creative tool. However, many users took issue with the feature's limitations, particularly in regards to its ability to reference posts that contained hate speech or discriminatory language.
In a blog post posted early yesterday morning, Facebook acknowledged that the tool had missed the mark and would no longer be available. The company stated that it had received "insight into how this feature was used" by users, which led them to decide to delete the tool in order to improve its functionality and moderation.
