Okta has announced that it is shifting its focus away from high-cost solutions in an effort to deliver more affordable cutting-edge AI-powered security solutions. According to the company, one of its most advanced tools, called Model Context Protocol (MCP), has undergone a significant overhaul. Okta claims that the updated MCP tool will allow for more efficient and cost-effective processing of AI agents.
Each model call made by an AI agent in Okta's platform can include detailed information about the tools exposed on the server, such as schemas, names, descriptions, and parameters. By doing so, Okta says it has reduced the amount of "tool tax" or prompt overhead required for each model call. This means that users will see a decrease in the tokens spent on AI agent token costs.
The updated MCP tool is expected to benefit from this change by providing more cost-effective processing capabilities for its clients. By reducing the complexity and specificity of tools included in an API request, Okta aims to make its solutions more accessible to smaller businesses and organizations that may not have previously been able to afford the full range of advanced AI-powered security features offered by its platform.
