Okta has unveiled a cutting-edge security solution designed to mitigate AI threats. The company's Identity-Scoped Model Context Protocol tool is said to be able to reduce the cost of using AI agents by listing each model call made by an agent and including schemas, names, descriptions, and parameters for every tool exposed by a MCP server.
According to Okta, this new protocol allows models to consider tools used in the development process as part of their "tool tax." This means that instead of spending money on expensive AI agents specifically designed for certain tasks, the model can use a combination of existing tools from its own infrastructure. By doing so, OKTA claims it can reduce the overall cost associated with using these models.
The Okta Identity-Scoped Model Context Protocol tool is designed to work in conjunction with other security measures, such as data encryption and access controls. While the specifics of how this protocol will be implemented have not been made public, OKTA says that it has already seen significant reductions in AI agent token costs in its own trials using the new technology.
