Stripe has agreed to acquire an AI model-routing platform called OpenRouter in a move that could expand the company's capabilities in using artificial intelligence for its services.
OpenRouter is designed to make it easier developers to use AI models in their applications, with access to hundreds of different models through a single interface. The deal adds model selection and routing to Stripe's existing work around AI usage and token-based billing. According to reports, OpenRouter supports more than 400 models from over 80 providers.
The acquisition comes as Stripe continues to invest heavily in artificial intelligence capabilities for its customers. With the addition of OpenRouter's technology, Stripe can now integrate AI-driven router functionality into its platforms, potentially enhancing the user experience and automating complex routing tasks. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is reported to be worth a significant amount.
