A former employee of Xai, an artificial intelligence startup, has filed a lawsuit against the company and its parent entity SpaceX. The plaintiff, whose name has not been released due to privacy concerns, claims he was fired for raising safety concerns about the company's AI systems, specifically regarding the use of "Grok days" - a hypothetical approach to training AI models.
The plaintiff alleges that Xai engineers were instructed to focus on optimizing performance and efficiency rather than prioritizing AI safety. He states that this led to an increased risk of AI failures and unintended consequences. The lawsuit also claims that SpaceX's CEO, Elon Musk, was aware of the alleged safety concerns but chose to ignore them.
As a result of his firing, the plaintiff is seeking damages for emotional distress, lost wages, and other related expenses. He has also filed a complaint with regulatory agencies, including the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), citing allegations that SpaceX misled investors about the company's safety practices during its historic IPO earlier this month. The lawsuit highlights concerns about corporate accountability and the need for AI companies to prioritize safety above profits.
