Just over half of American adults have admitted to having a romantic or sexual relationship with an artificial intelligence program. According to a survey conducted by the company AI Girlfriend Coach, which runs the website SurveyMonkey Audience, 50.5% of respondents reported that their partner's romantic or sexual interaction with an AI was cheating.
The survey found that the majority of those surveyed who had been in such relationships (53.1%) believed it was acceptable to cheat on a human partner as long as they were still in a relationship with an AI, while 23.3% said no way would their human partner ever be okay with them having an AI romance.
The survey also asked respondents how often they had been cheated on by their partner while in a romantic or sexual relationship with an AI and found that 45.6% of respondents reported being cheated on at least once, with the most common type of infidelity being "looking at other people on the AI's dating profile." The reasons for cheating ranged from "I was tired of the monotony" to "it made me feel special," suggesting a complex mix of motivations behind this form of romance.
