Google DeepMind has announced a significant step in its effort to ensure AI is used responsibly in biology, by unveiling a joint initiative with Isomorphic Labs. The program focuses on building the resilience of artificial intelligence systems in the face of potential misuse, while also providing support for outbreak response efforts.
The bioresilience program has been quietly underway over the past 12 months, involving partnerships with government bodies, biosecurity organisations, and research groups to build a robust framework for AI control. As part of this effort, DeepMind and Isomorphic Labs have established more than 15 partnerships with key stakeholders.
These collaborations aim to create a shared understanding among various parties about how to mitigate the risks associated with AI misuse in biology. By fostering open communication and collaboration, the initiative seeks to prevent potential problems arising from the unregulated development and deployment of advanced technologies like deep learning models.
